Although significant technical content will be presented, this is not a technician-training program. The purpose of CUMREC is to provide a forum for higher education professionals to share their expertise and experiences with computer systems in our ever-changing world of technology.
The CUMREC Annual Conference, founded in , is the longest running continuing conference devoted to promoting the understanding and use of information technology in higher education. These include practitioners in digital preservation from all kind of organisations and institutions, decision-makers and other people involved in choosing preservation file formats, and preservationists who are facing file format challenges and are looking for first-hand information and experience. In particular, people who want to exchange their experience with colleagues from all over Europe and beyond should consider attending.
The program will consist of an online tutorial and a series of one-week workshops to be held in Ithaca, NY.
The primary goal of this program is to enable effective decision making for administrators who will be responsible for the longevity of digital objects in an age of technological uncertainty. With expert guidance, participants will examine the advantages of developing digital collections of heritage materials and investigate issues involved in creating, curating and managing access to such collections. Brand new Book. Virtual Worlds is the second in a series of international scientific conferences on virtual worlds held at the International Institute of Multimedia in Paris La Defense Pole Universitaire Leonard de Vinci. The term "virtual worlds" generally refers to virtual reality applications or experi ences. We extend the use of these terms to describe experiments that deal with the idea of synthesizing digital worlds on computers. Thus, virtual worlds could be de fined as the study of computer programs that implement digital worlds. Constructing such complex artificial worlds seems to be extremely difficult to do in any sort of complete and realistic manner.
Such a new discipline must benefit from a large amount of work in various fields: virtual reality and advanced computer graphics, artificial life and evolutionary computation, simulation of physical systems, and more.
Whereas virtual reality has largely concerned itself with the design of 3D immersive graphical spaces, and artificial life with the simulation of living organisms, the field of virtual worlds, is concerned with the synthesis of digital universes considered as wholes, with their own "physical" and "biological" laws.
